SUMMARY:Community Organizing Training with Garrett Bucks
DESCRIPTION:  \nFor decades\, Black\, Brown and Indigenous activists have called on white people to organize against racism and white supremacy in our own communities. Garrett Bucks founded the Barnraisers Project to heed that call. His trainings help white people move past the twin traps of polite silence and social media fights. The world doesn’t need more white people hashtagging and yard-signing\, but it always needs thoughtful\, committed organizing. \nGarrett’s trainings equip average folks (people who’ve never thought of themselves as organizers) with the tools to move their social networks from denial and defensiveness to action. His methods have been tested in urban and rural communities; wealthy and poor; left\, right and center. This training with Garrett will be specific to Whole Washington and help us learn the skills we need to better connect with our neighbors and grow our movement. \nThe community organizing training will be a two-hour online class focused on the following topics: \n\nWhat is organizing and why does it matter?\nWhat are the barriers to organizing for social justice in majority White communities?\nHow can you start showing up– in your community\, in relationships\, as a consumer of the news–like an organizer?\n\nJoin us and RSVP below! \nWant to go deeper? DESCRIPTION:Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility and Whole Washington are teaming up for some Town Halls along with Undue Medical Debt (pka RIP Medical Debt).  We are visiting every corner of the state to create spaces for open dialog about the failures of the current for-profit system\, to solicit stories from those impacted by the lack of adequate nurse staffing\, hospital and provider closures\, challenges of navigating insurance coverage and denials\, or surprise bills and financial debt. \nThis is a non-partisan\, educational event – open to the public.  WPSR will be sharing their Demand Access program and their proposal to pay for healthcare for every person in America using unneeded military dollars. Undue Medical Debt wants to raise enough money to buy back one million dollars in medical debt here in Washington. And Whole Washington will be present to discuss our  Washington Health Trust.  We’ll end with Q & A from you\, the audience.  Everyone has a story and we want to hear yours. \nWe believe we can do better by establishing the Washington Health Trust and designing a nonprofit system that works for patients and providers\, without the corrupting influence of for-profit insurance companies.
