SUMMARY:Monday Volunteer Meeting - Signature Collection Suspension & The Path Forward
DESCRIPTION:It is with heavy hearts and clear eyes that we must announce the suspension of our signature gathering efforts. As you are aware\, the Covid-19 Delta Variant is currently tearing its way through our communities and pushing us toward our highest infection rates yet. With our friends and neighbors becoming ill\, our hospitals filling to capacity\, and only a little more than half of Washingtonians fully vaccinated\, we had to question our willingness to continue putting our supporters and the general public in harm’s way. \nThe Board and Leadership held an emergency meeting Tuesday evening\, 8/17 to answer these questions. The answer—as hard as it is to accept—is that we can not in good conscience continue collecting signatures at this time. Effective immediately\, we are asking all of you to set your petitions aside and focus on staying safe and staying healthy. We will reassess our options as soon as Washington State is able to bring the spread of the Delta variant under control. \nWe are beyond grateful for all of the hard work that has gone into the campaign thus far\, and for all of the hard work yet to come! So many of you work incredibly hard\, motivated only by the hope of a better world and we love you for that. \nMake no mistake\, this is not the end of our fight or the Whole Washington Campaign. The current crisis only highlights our need for Universal Healthcare at the state and national levels. We have the opportunity to rise to the occasion and push our state and country to meet the healthcare standard that the rest of the developed world enjoys. \nThis decision means processing feelings of grief\, frustration\, and disappointment. It also comes with new strategies and possibilities. We will be holding our regular Volunteer Meeting this Monday\, Aug. 23rd at 7PM to make space for your questions\, comments and concerns\, and to discuss our next steps as an organization. \nWe will get through this and we will come out the other side stronger and more energized than ever to win! \nZoom Link \nSpread the word:
