DESCRIPTION:The house just approved the Senate’s budget bill (known as the Big Beautiful Bill) 218-214 with every Democrat voting against it along with 2 Republicans. This is a disaster for healthcare in Washington State. Washington State took full advantage of Medicaid Expansion and is now being punished along with the other 40 Medicaid states. \nNew estimates from the Seattle Times indicate 490\,000 people will lose Apple Health/Medicaid and an additional 150\,000 could be priced out due to expiring subsidies. This is 640\,000 Washingtonians or 8% of our population. This is a disaster that will more than double our uninsured and increase healthcare costs for all of us. 1 in 13 people will be losing healthcare. \nJoin Whole Washington tonight to talk about how we can fix this by convincing our state law makers to embrace the Washington Health Trust now. It is the time for single payer\, universal healthcare to respond to the eminent healthcare crisis we are facing. Our plan would save money and provide coverage to all residents. SUMMARY:Health Care is a Human Right Summer Cookout
DESCRIPTION:Whole Washington is a member of the Health Care is a Human Right (HCHR) WA coalition. This year\, HCHR’s Summer Cookout and General Meeting will be held in Northeast Tacoma on Sunday\, July 27th\, starting at 3:00 PM. We’ve secured a fantastic location right near the water\, offering breathtaking views and just a 10-minute walk from the beach\, perfect for a pre-cookout stroll or a refreshing dip. To make this a truly communal event\, we’re planning a potluck-style cookout\, so please bring your favorite food and/or drinks to share with everyone. We will also be cooking on site. In addition to good food and company\, we’ll have special guest speakers who we count as champions\, along with an important update from HCHR leaders on the latest happenings at the state and federal levels. We’ll also discuss concrete ways we can continue to be involved in our collective work towards healthcare justice. The exact address will be shared with all registrants the week before the event to ensure a smooth arrival. Families\, including kids\, are welcome.
