DESCRIPTION:Join Whole Washington and the Clark County League of Women Voters for a community conversation about the woes of our current for-profit system and how establishing the Washington Health Trust could be a real solution for Washington state. Saving lives and saving money \nWe are creating spaces for open dialogue about our healthcare system.  In some way\, we’re all too familiar with the failures of the fragmented\, for-profit system that we have today.  Failures like: \n\ninadequate staffing\nhospital closures\nchallenges with navigating insurance coverage\ndenials\, networks\, and per-authorizations\nsurprise bills and medical debt\n\nWe know we can do better. By establishing the Washington Health Trust and designing a publicly funded\, nonprofit system\, we can offer comprehensive care to all Washington State residents.  Patients\, providers\, unions\, small businesses\, our entire community will benefit. When we disconnect healthcare from employment\, we live longer and save money. \nWhole Washington organizers will present about 20 minutes worth of material and then move into Q & A. Everyone has a story and we want to hear yours! We’ll highlight how the Washington Health Trust can resolve many existing issues and get us on track to a brighter future. \nThese town halls are non-partisan\, educational events\, open to everyone. SUMMARY:Whole Washington & Physicians for Social Responsibility "Healthcare Not Warfare" Town Hall- Bellingham
DESCRIPTION:Washington Physicians for Social Responsibility and Whole Washington are teaming up for some Town Halls along with Undue Medical Debt (pka RIP Medical Debt).  We are visiting every corner of the state to create spaces for open dialog about the failures of the current for-profit system\, to solicit stories from those impacted by the lack of adequate nurse staffing\, hospital and provider closures\, challenges of navigating insurance coverage and denials\, or surprise bills and financial debt. \nThis is a non-partisan\, educational event – open to the public.  WPSR will be sharing their Demand Access program and their proposal to pay for healthcare for every person in America using unneeded military dollars. Undue Medical Debt wants to raise enough money to buy back one million dollars in medical debt here in Washington. And Whole Washington will be present to discuss our  Washington Health Trust.  We’ll end with Q & A from you\, the audience.  Everyone has a story and we want to hear yours. \nWe believe we can do better by establishing the Washington Health Trust and designing a nonprofit system that works for patients and providers\, without the corrupting influence of for-profit insurance companies. We believe unions\, small businesses and our communities will benefit greatly by disconnecting healthcare from employment and ensuring healthy families\, longer and more productive lives and a healthy workforce. \nPlease join us at this open\, bipartisan event.
