Something better?\n68\,000+ Americans will die this year due to lack of adequate healthcare and 500\,000+ families will file for bankruptcy due to medical expenses. These numbers only represent a fraction of the trauma that millions of people experience everyday in the American for-profit healthcare industry. Yet numerous polls have shown that over 70% of Americans support switching to a universal healthcare system. \nUsing an all-star lineup of heavy-hitters in the healthcare movement\, Healing US walks through all key points of the arguments in favor of a universal\, single-payer healthcare system. \nHealing US is a rallying cry to the American people. SUMMARY:Health Care is a Human Right Summer Cookout
DESCRIPTION:Whole Washington is a member of the Health Care is a Human Right (HCHR) WA coalition. This year\, HCHR’s Summer Cookout and General Meeting will be held in Northeast Tacoma on Sunday\, July 27th\, starting at 3:00 PM. We’ve secured a fantastic location right near the water\, offering breathtaking views and just a 10-minute walk from the beach\, perfect for a pre-cookout stroll or a refreshing dip. To make this a truly communal event\, we’re planning a potluck-style cookout\, so please bring your favorite food and/or drinks to share with everyone. We will also be cooking on site. In addition to good food and company\, we’ll have special guest speakers who we count as champions\, along with an important update from HCHR leaders on the latest happenings at the state and federal levels. We’ll also discuss concrete ways we can continue to be involved in our collective work towards healthcare justice. The exact address will be shared with all registrants the week before the event to ensure a smooth arrival. Families\, including kids\, are welcome. DESCRIPTION:We\, the Health Care Is a Human Right WA coalition\, made up of 40 organizations\, are united in our demand: No cuts to essential services and no balancing of the budget on the backs of the vulnerable. We are committed to ensuring that health care is a fundamental right\, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. The ongoing budget cuts and delays in achieving universal coverage are harming our community.\nImpact of Cuts. \nThe federal cuts have already begun to hit hard. Many of Washington’s programs\, such as Medicaid\, cancer screenings\, and other vital services\, are funded by the federal government. As these programs face significant reductions or potential loss\, we need to strengthen our state’s ability to fund and sustain these services independently. We cannot afford to rely on a federal government that continues to prioritize the wealthy over the needs of its citizens. \nIncreasing Revenue\nWashington needs to support itself and build a sustainable\, equitable future. This includes revisiting tax breaks for big businesses and ensuring that those who can afford to contribute more do so\, so that the burden of essential services does not fall solely on the poor and middle class. \nFeatured Speakers include: \n\nPatty Kuderer Washington’s Insurance Commissioner\, will speak to the critical need for universal health coverage\, highlight the importance of achieving single-payer uhc reform at the state level\, how we can get there\, how advocates can support that goal\, and the impact of the threatened Federal Medicaid cuts on our reform efforts in WA.\nVicki Lowe\, Executive Director of the American Indian Health Commission of WA. The cuts to both federal and state budgets disproportionately harm Native Americans who already face significant healthcare challenges. Dismantling of federal agencies.\n\nThese communities must not be further neglected in the push for budgetary cuts. There will be time at the end of the hour for attendees to share their stories.
