Resolution SJM 8004 Moves On!

The UHC Resolution passed the Healthcare Committee

First up, some good news. Last Wednesday, SJM 8004 passed the House Health and Wellness Committee. The testimony presented at the hearing on the 21st was incredibly powerful. If you missed it, you can view clips of Whole Washington supporters making the solid case for Universal Healthcare on our YouTube channel! We’ve even posted counterpoints to the CON arguments. Our YouTube channel is full of great stuff these days.

Next, the resolution moves to the Rules Committee.

If you live in a legislative district with a Rules Committee member, we encourage you to reach out to them and ask them to pull SJM 8004 to the House floor for a vote! You can call the Legislative Hotline at 800-562-6000 weekdays to get a message to them.

We also have an email template and a list of email addresses for the Rules Committee members and their legislative assistants. Join our Slack team-legislature channel, and let’s make these targeted asks together!

What’s Up in April?

It’s time to show up!

First, let’s talk about why showing up is so vital in this moment. The Trump administration is actively ushering in the authoritative beast of fascism. Our country is in peril.

We have to recognize institutions won’t save us; we must save ourselves. Large scale rallies that flaunt the power of our numbers are necessary. We can’t comply in advance, we can’t imply approval by being quiet, and we can’t wait it out. Instead, we have to mobilize mass movements, ready to be called into action.

Action will always be the antidote to despair. So let’s take a look at how we can make progress in April.

No Cuts – Raise Revenue Rally 4/2

On the steps of our state’s Capitol Building in Olympia

Health Care is a Human Right is rallying their huge coalition to show up this Wednesday, 4/2, to demand progressive revenue and fight budget cuts that harm Washingtonians. From their email this morning…

“We hope to see many of you in Olympia on Wednesday at 12:30 when we rally for revenue, especially progressive revenue. It is very good that new revenue bills are being heard today and this week. Our legislators and the Governor need to hear our demand that the budget not be balanced on the backs of working people and the most vulnerable or by cutting essential services.”

A hand drawn figure in charcoal with their fist raised and Ben Franklin dollar bills floating around the figure. The text says No Cuts - Raise Revenue Rally with location and time. There are logos of 12 participating organizations at the bottom

Please join us. There will be amazing speakers, including Patty Kuderer, our State Insurance Commissioner and Vicki Lowe, executor director of American Indian Health Commission of Washington.

Nationwide Hands Off Protest 4/5

Our Democracy! Our Diversity! Our Rights!

This Saturday’s rally and protest will be massive. The entire country is acting in defiance. We can show the administration we oppose the fascist takeover.

Events are happening all over Washington, not just Seattle! Bremerton, Port Angeles, Ocean Shores, Gig Harbor, Spokane, Chelan, and many more – too many to note. Enter your zip code to find the event closest to you!

This is a very Trump & Musk-focused event, but it’s a huge opportunity for Whole Washington. At the federal level, we’ve been put in a defensive position, resisting and bracing for what’s to come.  At the state level, we’re in a position to go on the offense and build the healthcare system we want! The activists at Saturday’s rally will want something to do, and so many people have never heard of our bill! Hand them a Whole WA quarter sheet!

All Hands Reminder 4/7

In Person Commission Testimony 4/17

In person, you say? YES! Let’s show our formidable presence by attending the Universal Health Care Commission April meeting in Olympia! Zoom testimony is always welcome too, but if you can, we’re going to apply pressure by showing up!

Look out, Spokane 4/26 and 4/27

Whole Washington is coming to town!

The last weekend of April will be a flurry of activity in eastern Washington!

A Meet & Greet, a Town Hall, a showing of the Healing US documentary, AND a Volutnteer Retreat. WOW, what a weekend. Spokane is going to be a hotbed of universal healthcare activism.

And hey the May Gala is coming up soon!

As we mentally prepare for the new month, we’d be incredibly grateful for a donation of financial support. Literature, venue spaces, signage, etc. are needed desperately right now.

Please help us show up across the state in the best way we possibly can!

See you out there,

Whole Washington
