The Universal Health Care Commission
learns about the Washington Health Trust

Andre Stackhouse and Erin Georgen will lead a presentation to the Commission on Senate Bill 5335. This bill, introduced in the Washington State Senate, would create the first state-wide publicly funded, universal health care system in the country!

We want to show up in 3 ways

1 Invite your State Senator and State Reps to attend

It’s important for our representatives to hear about real solutions. Here's the plan to encourage attendance.

Send them a Postcard! Check out the Postcard Project for details

A stack of brightly colored postcards that say 'Do this 1 thing to help us all'

'As your constituent, I need universal healthcare...'

Or Call and/or Email them!

  • If you know who your legislators are, look up their email here: Member List
    • You don't need a bill number in the form. If you include one, use 5335.
  • If you don't know your legislators, use the District Finder.
    • Note: you can also see phone numbers with this tool.

SAMPLE PHONE/EMAIL SCRIPT

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I live in [CITY]. I’m calling to urge [Senator/Representative NAME] to attend the Universal Health Care Commission meeting next Thursday, 8/10 at 2 PM. We desperately need Universal Healthcare and the Washington Health Trust presentation will show how we can get this done in our state! Include personal experience like:

  • My deductible is so high, it's like I don't have insurance.
  • Medical bills have ruined my credit and depleted my savings.
  • I haven't been to the dentist in years.

Finally, demand action.

  • Be brave and pass universal healthcare now.
  • We can't continue to delay. We are not well.
  • This legislation saves money and lives! You were elected to help us!

2 Give the Universal Health Care Commission your input

As Universal Healthcare advocates, there are some requirements that we need from the Commission, that we’re simply not getting. We need clear definitions, urgency, an identified mission, a timeline, and a single payer solution that puts our health first. They need to hear from us. Here’s how to be a part of August’s Commission Meeting:

Send the Commission an email

Email: [email protected]
Include a bit about yourself, your healthcare story, and/or what you expect the Commission to do.

Provide public testimony

Give comments via Zoom or in person in Olympia.

First, email the Commission at [email protected] and let them know you want to speak at the August meeting. The email will put you in line. You don't need to have your comments prepared yet.

Note: There’s a time limit on comments based on the number of people that want to speak. You could have up to 2 minutes or as little as 60 seconds. Make sure you get your most important point made up front.

In Person Meeting Location

Washington State Health Care Authority
Cherry Street Plaza
Sue Crystal Center, Conference Rooms 106A and 106B

3 Encourage everyone you know to attend!

We want the Commission and our elected representatives to know we're watching and demanding results. Send the Zoom link to your friends, family, and colleagues.
