Care Beyond Profit Webinar – Put on by ACRE

February 27 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am

ACRE (Action Center on Race and the Economy) is hosting a webinar on reimagining healthcare. Their description:

Our healthcare system is failing us. It’s bound up in structural racism that is literally killing people of color, and it’s more focused on delivering profits to Wall Street investors than on providing patients quality, life-saving healthcare. How did we get here? Join us for another discussion in a series of explorations into how our healthcare system got to this point, and what we can do to transform it into one that meets the needs of people experiencing poverty and communities of color.

This month, we are joined by Physicians for a National Health Program to discuss findings from their new report, Removing the Middlemen from Medicaid. Modeled after Connecticut’s successful deprivatization of Medicaid, and drawing on the experience of several other states, the report explores some common misconceptions about the role of insurers in Medicaid, the benefits of removing them and the paths to return management to state administrators. Since this report came out, legislators in a half dozen states have introduced legislation to deprivatize Medicaid or are developing other reform efforts. We will discuss strategies to fight against Medicaid privatization and save money for state budgets impacted by federal Medicaid cuts.

The Care Beyond Profit conversation series is organized by the Action Center on Race & the Economy. Support for this series was provided by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The views expressed here do not necessarily reflect the views of the Foundation. The series will highlight new research in the field and explore how we can use it to advance equitable healthcare regardless of race and class.
