One active bill is on track to reach the Senate floor before the 2/17 cutoff.
- Passed through the Rules Committee – SB.5947 is a universal healthcare “trigger bill” which commits Washington to immediate implementation of statewide universal healthcare pending the receipt of federal waivers or the passage of the (federal) State Based Universal Health Care Act (SBUHCA).
- Did not advance – SJR.8206 is a constitutional amendment that would establish “access to cost-effective, clinically appropriate, and affordable health care” as a fundamental right. It is the highest level of protection and legal guarantee possible within the state government but would still need to be paired with a universal healthcare implementation passed as a law.
